Taking care of your body through exercise and massage are great ways to live a long and fulfilling life. However, complimenting these practices with nourishing food will help you feel even better. Every ounce of food that we consume has an affect on our bodies, and putting the right fuel inside our bodies is beneficial in the long term. For example, eating seasonally is vital to avoid getting colds and seasonal illnesses. It’s important to nourish our bodies with food that’s harvesting in the current season so we can stay in tune with the earth’s movement. In the winter, do we eat cold salads with strawberries? No, we eat warming stews made from root vegetables like carrots and daikon. These vegetables and long-cooking methods are meant to keep us warm, full and sustained during the cold months of hibernation. As you enter these cold upcoming months, I encourage you to look at your plates, making sure that you’re eating enough warm, root foods.
